STATEMENT OF ORGANIZATION
The First Presbyterian Church of Georgetown, Texas, is a member church of the Presbytery of Mission in the Synod of the Sun of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A). As such, we are governed by the constitution of this denomination. Our confessional standards are The Book of Confessions and our Foundations of Presbyterian Polity, Form of Government, Directory for Worship, and Rules of Discipline are contained in the Book of Order.
In the ordering of the life of this congregation, we utilize three offices: the office of Minister of the Word and Sacrament (Teaching Elder), the office of Elder (Ruling Elder), and the office of Deacon. The congregation is incorporated under the laws of the State of Texas and elects Trustees to serve the congregation.
By organizing ourselves in this way, the Session is charged with the task of governing the life of the local congregation; the Diaconate is charged with our ministry of sympathy and service. The Trustees function under G-4.0101, Book of Order, and act as directed by the Session and as appropriate by the congregation.
