Growing in Grace: A Writing Class for Writers, Non-Writers, and Everyone In-Between
Wednesdays @ 9:30 AM
In-Person or Virtual Attendance
Have you been keeping a journal or occasionally writing down your thoughts, aspirations, hopes and dreams, prayers or activities during this past year while we’ve been in a life-altering global pandemic? Many people have: everyday folks, journalers, bloggers, pastors, writers, students and even Presbyterians. Here’s your opportunity if you haven’t been.
Pastor Bobby announced that he will lead a weekly, 90-minute class that begins at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 2, and runs for five weeks, through June 30, with the location to be announced later. “Growing in Grace: A Writing Class for Writers, Non-Writers and Everyone In-Between” is for all interested persons. It begins as virtual coffee with Bobby winds down at the end of May.
Bobby invites you to join him in capturing the memories and moments of this past year. “That we have been through a lot this past year is an understatement! And the farther we get from some of the hardest and most joyful moments, the more likely they will fade.”
Class participants will gather to write and share what they write with the class. The simple format may be familiar to some who recall one of Pastor Bobby’s sermons about a writing class he took a few years back. To start the class, he will give an open-ended prompt, and participants will write for 10 minutes. Then each person will share what he or she wrote.
As for the sharing part, Bobby said, “We don’t expect polished, great and inspiring writing. Rather, this is about opening ourselves to the practice of writing and the memories the Holy Spirit has us capture on paper that day. More can happen in that simple discipline than we acknowledge. And there is a reason this class is called Growing in Grace: It’s not about perfection but offering ourselves just as we are before one another, and discovering the gift therein. ”
During the class, plans are for participants to write for 10 minutes three times and read aloud three times. Bobby will conclude the class with a brief reading or reflection.
