All Youth and Adult Classes
Room 113

Speaker: James Lavender, Development Officer for Austin & West Texas Presbyterian Children’s Homes and Services

In this combined class of adults and youth, James will provide a brief overview of Presbyterian Children’s Homes and Services (PCHAS), highlighting significant transitions from its beginnings to now. He will share about the work PCHAS is doing to provide Christ-centered care for children and families in need. He will also provide detailed information about the services PCHAS offers in Central Texas that provide tangible support for children and families. There will be a time for small group discussions,

James came to PCHAS last May and is the new Development Officer serving in the central and west regions of Texas. Bridget Chapman, FPC Mission Advocate for the agency, said, “We have been looking for an opportunity for James to connect with FPC and meet our congregation and thought this would be a good initial audience.”

PCHAS is a child and family agency that strives to serve like Jesus by caring for children and families in need, meeting clients where they are and treating them with respect.

James joined PCHAS after serving 17 years as a Worship Director at churches in Texas and Arizona. He began his ministry as a part-time worship leader in Corpus Christi before being called to lead worship departments in Austin and Dallas.

Throughout his career, James has led project teams responsible for the design and build of a fine arts center in Dallas, numerous technology and communication projects, and an arts education school that grew to more than 500 students and 35 part-time music educators. He continues to contribute to the arts community in Austin as a vocalist with Chorus Austin and Conspirare and can often be found singing with these groups at the Long Center alongside the Austin Symphony Orchestra.

James and his wife Susan have recently made Georgetown their home.
