MARCH FRED TALK (Field Trip)

Group Field Trip to The Christopher House in Austin

Monday, March 20
9:00 AM
The Christopher House

The FRED Talk has hosted a speaker for the past two months to learn about Hospice Austin. Instead of an evening talk on March 20 at the church, Stephen Ministers are planning to carpool to Austin and learn more about Hospice Austin’s Christopher House. Keisha Jones, RN, Director of Inpatient Services, will meet the group from FPC. The house is located at 2820 E. Martin Luther King Blvd.

If you are not a Stephen Minister but are interested in making the trip, you are welcome to join the group. And if you would like to be a carpool driver, please contact Sandie Kienitz.

In 1997 Hospice Austin bought the 15-bed AIDS inpatient Christopher House and opened the area’s first inpatient hospice facility the next year. It was renamed “Hospice Austin’s Christopher House.”

Keisha Jones, RN

Ms. Jones is responsible for the staffing of 40 nurses, chaplains, social workers and certified nursing assistants at Hospice Austin’s Christopher House. She also oversees day-to-day operations.

When symptoms can’t be managed temporarily at home, the house provides 24-hour medical care. All
15 rooms have a private bathroom, microwave oven, refrigerator, wireless internet, fold-out sofa, cable TV and DVD player. Many of the rooms open onto a courtyard and all have private doors and windows that open to let in fresh air.

The program is sponsored by FPC’s Stephen Ministry.
